Hey, How Ya Doing?

And we don't even care what the answer is

(Posted February 14, 2017)  I am tired of hearing about how insightful and creative humans are when all day long, every single day, the most compelling shit that comes out of our mouth is, “Hey, how ya doing?” And you know it’s true!

And we don’t even care what the answer is, whether people are happy or miserable. I am guilty of doing it, too. At the gym, I say it to around 10 people, and always say it to a few people standing in the lottery line with me, as well.

Then, I realized that when I walk Doyle, my 14-year-old 85-pound lab, and he gets walked every single day for 35-45 minutes without exception, he barks at around 10 dogs and squirrels, and a few humans, too. Basically, he’s saying the same shit to them: “Hey, how ya doing”.

His whole walk is based around relieving himself, looking for some bread crumbs that people left out for the birds, and saying ‘hey how ya doin’ ’ to as many folks as possible.

BTW, our walks usually start around 6:30 because I’m an early riser. But a few times a week I get caught up in computer work and forget what time it is. So, usually around 8 or 8:30 which is way past walk time, Doyle puts his big beautiful face on the arm of my chair and sighs heavily. Translation: “Hey, how ya doing? Can we go outside and do that walk so I can say ‘hey how ya doing’ to everyone else?”
